Please note: this is a seasonal position, designed specifically for JHU students, in conjunction with InBaltimore. 


FutureMakers is a growing team of maker education coaches – makers who teach, and teachers who make – with active practices as designers, tinkerers, artists, technologists, and exceptional educators. We partner with organizations and schools throughout the DC, MD, VA area to provide immersive,  K – 8 learning labs where young makers play, experiment, and innovate with real tools and technologies, in material-rich environments.

STEM Education Research Associate

POSITION PURPOSE
Support the research, documentation and alignment of FutureMakers’ work with national STEM initiatives, regional and state practices and standards. Collaborate with staff to enhance existing curricula and materials of instruction, and align with learning and assessment standards. Reports to our Program Manager.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Review and organize existing electronic and physical materials of instruction, documents, photos, videos and related instructional examples and identify associated standards and aligned assessments.
    • Identify and collaborate with local STEM education agencies to establish and implement external review from interested educators and program managers.
    • Update materials of instruction and communications materials to include information about aligned standards and assessments. .
    • Support enhancement of materials of instruction in G Suite.
  • Elicit and track feedback on STEM alignment from instructors and partners.


ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Our office is located in Baltimore, MD, in the Station North business district six blocks south of the Homewood campus. Our location is accessible by Hopkins and public transportation.

Travel: Minimal local travel required  for occasional site observations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eligible to work in the US. Knowledge of landscape of elementary STEM education essential. Some education focused experience is helpful. English technical / instructional writing samples required. Candidates must be proficient in G Suite, and have background with database development tools (Airtable or comparable).  

Education Required: Completed second  year of bachelor’s program.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 0 years

Physical Requirements: None.

Preferred Qualifications: Education, technical writing, communications, communications design.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies: Project management, technical writing, instructional design, proofreading, database management, G Suite.

SALARY RANGE
$3500
